Smoothies, Family Favorite

Smoothies are such a great go-to meal.  They make a perfect afterschool snack or a quick and healthy breakfast.  Smoothies are a delicious way to fill your family's bellies with nutrients.  Even when my kids aren't feeling well and don't have much of an appetite, they still always drink their smoothies.  It's a great way to keep them hydrated while giving them added nutrients.  This smoothie will fill your family with Potassium, Calcium, Antioxidants,  Fiber, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, Manganese, Protein and Omega 3 fatty acids.

This recipe is appropriate for babies 12 months and up, toddlers, big kids and grown-ups.  I like to use wild blueberries because they rank #2 on the USDA's list of the top antioxidant rich foods.

What you'll need:
1 cup of organic milk (whole, 2% or 1%)
1 large, ripe banana
1 cup of frozen organic wild blueberries (I love Woodstock Farms brand)
2 tablespoon organic, ground flaxseed (a wonderful source of omega 3's and lignans)

This recipe serves 2 adults and 1-2 kids.

Place all ingredients in the blender and blend on high for about 30 seconds until nice and smooth.

For adults, serve in a tall glass and for toddlers or kids, in a cup with a straw.

"This is just what I need after a long day of school, thanks Mom!"

  1. I am glad you included adults here.

I just had major dental work done and have been placed on a limited diet. Primarily NPO, but I can eat jello, pudding, yogurt, baby food, or anything with the same consistency that does not need to be chewed. It was even suggested that I get a juicer!

Since I am not know for my culinary aptitude, obviously my intake has primarily been protein shakes and the like, but this smoothie does sound good!

I have obviously have purchased yogurt and jello and looked at the various baby foods available at the market. You are right on about the costs, and the recipes you feature on your blog are unique and distinct in combination's. I have not seen comparable varieties or variations there!

You have a "Petite Princess", well then I guess that makes me either a, "Real Princess", or perhaps just spoiled, as some have said. Now all I need is either a chef or perhaps, Hayden's left over purees!

In any case, please keep posting your personal combination's here; I am keeping notes, and ideally one of these days, I will work up the courage to actually attempt a recipe in the kitchen myself!
